Hello! Long time no see…

I know it has been a long time since I have done a personal HR blog but to be honest, I haven’t really felt like writing for a while now, but I wanted to thank everyone who has been missing my little HR blog and have been writing to me directly!

Since I launched my business Rebox HR in March 2020, it has been incredibly busy and my little business has gained so much momentum, I’m incredibly proud of how well it has done but it leaves me very little time to blog at the rate I used to! I am writing lots of new content both on here and on my business blog, so if you’re looking for the more of the legal HR stuff, make sure you pop over and give it a follow.

The main reason people contact me is to ask about their own HR careers and what they need to do to progress so as an idea, some of the main questions I am being asked are:

  • How do I get into an HR career?
  • How can I progress my career?
  • I’m stuck in my HR job, I want to do something else – help!
  • What CIPD qualification is right for me?
  • Is it worth upgrading my CIPD membership?

As I am now getting around 10-15 emails a week, I thought I would take an opportunity to meet some of you online to talk all things HR, my book Launch Your HR Career (grab your copy here!) and answer your burning questions!

On 7th September 2021, I am hosting an event online at 6:30pm – it would be great if you could join me, to book your ticket, grab yours here! Spaces are limited and on a first come first serve basis so make sure you don’t miss out.

I look forward to seeing some of you there!

How can flexible working help your business?

“Women are working more, men are understanding their value as caregivers, women are primary breadwinners—I mean, we could go on and on and on. Things are different. So we can’t keep operating like everything is the same, and that’s what many of us have done. And I think it’s up to us to change the conversation.”

Michelle Obama

As an HR Consultant, if I had £1 for every time a client said to me that “flexible working is only for parents” I would be a very wealthy lady!

The most common question my clients ask is “how can flexible working help my business?” so if you are thinking just that, then read on!

Whilst flexible working is traditionally associated with working parents, we must acknowledge that the world of work is changing and with that, we are seeing a shift in the demographic in society (a third of workers will be over 50 by the end of 2020) therefore the myth around flexible working being just for parents, is simply that, just a myth! Now everyone has the right to request their employer to work more flexibly, which means that change for businesses is inevitable.

What is imposter syndrome and how can you overcome it?

“We all have doubts in our abilities, about our power and what that power is”

Michelle Obama

Do you ever feel like a fraud? Are you ever overcome with feelings of doubt in respect of your capabilities at work? If so, then you could be one of the thousands of people who experience imposter syndrome.

I have just finished reading Michelle Obama’s book for the second time and this particular subject, whilst it certainly isn’t new, is one that so many overlook and it can be a really confidence knock. It was a part of her book that really resonated with me, many times in my career I have experienced not being taken seriously, that led me to think that there is a problem with how I present myself to others.

For those of you who know me well, you’ll know how much of a book worm I am! To celebrate World Book Day 2019, I have gathered a list of my favourite top ten business and inspirational books to share with you all to inspire your next read.

I have picked these books in particular, because I think they are inspirational, motivational and brilliant. I couldn’t put them down, and like all good secrets, I had to share them! They have each individually helped me to shape my career and support my career development with helpful tips that I have taken away, and I continue to use them throughout my every day working life.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

International Women’s Day 2017

Inspirational, motivational, encouraging, supportive, collaborative, united.

Today is International Women’s Day 2017 and the above words are what I think of when it comes to this day every year and after seeing the bundles of support throughout my social media channels,  I couldn’t be prouder to be a woman today.

“There is no limit to what we, as women can accomplish”

Michelle Obama

James Brown famously sang “this is a man’s world”, and I think he wasn’t far from the truth; however, we are starting to see the positive changes that so many have fought tirelessly to see. Equal rights, equal pay and more importantly support to make these changes happen. There are exciting times ahead but there is still much more to be done. We are starting to see changes in employment law with Gender Pay Gap Reporting and opportunities with the Apprentice Levy which will allow so many people the opportunity to start their journey to their dream career regardless of age or gender.

The Suffragettes marched through the streets of London in 1915 to campaign for equal pay and for the right to vote, it’s important that as women we do not take what they campaigned for as a given right, they were determined to make a change and they did, this couldn’t be any more prominent in this year’s IWD motto Be Bold For Change.

Today we are fortunate to be surrounded by strong and positive female influences ranging from athletes and entrepreneurs right through to business leaders and there is something we can learn from every one of them. So today take time to listen more and understand the direction that this could take future generations, today is so much more than wearing a t-shirt and saying things only to be forgotten about tomorrow; it’s a movement, it’s about actions and making the world a better place, one step at a time.

I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without the women in my life and those who have helped shape my career, these fantastic ladies all know who they are and I tell them all the time! Consider those who have helped you get to where you are, can you pass your support on to others? It’s easy to forget when you’re working the 9-5 but these small changes and support can make a huge difference. Be part of that change.

I’m very lucky to be from a family that have empowered and inspired me to be the best that I can be, I have a strong mum, supportive sister, a hard working brother and a very proud father and I just wanted to take a moment to say how truly grateful I am to have them. I wouldn’t be where I am now without their love, understanding and support.

However you’re celebrating IWD, enjoy it and have a fantastic day.
