Faye and I setting up our stand at the Road Transport Expo 2026
I’m writing this on a Sunday afternoon, sat in my home office, laptop open, cup of tea going cold beside me. Most of the people I know are out enjoying their weekend right now. But I’m here, working away. That’s not an unusual Sunday for me.
Nobody really tells you this bit when you decide to build a business. They tell you about the freedom, the flexibility, the being-your-own-boss dream, you know the Instagram worthy posts typically aspire to these days. What they don’t tell you is just how much of yourself you have to hand over to make it work.
Why Believing in Yourself is the Key to Career Success
Today brought me the most wonderful news that perfectly illustrates why self-belief is so crucial for professional success. Someone I’ve been mentoring over the past few months has just achieved Chartered Fellowship of the CIPD – one of the most landmark levels in HR.
I have been inspired to write this post after I recently read the books The Comfort Zone and The Key to Positivity by Kristen Butler. I found both books were incredibly inspiring, and when juggling running a business, managing a team, and all whilst trying to spend time with family and friends, it’s safe to say it is difficult to stay positive consistently when managing stress.
Managing stress is a subject I have studied for many years, not just as part of my CIPD studies, but when meeting the many different people I am fortunate to work with. I am always curious to find out what works for people, because the answers are never the same, from the variety of solutions available, it is interesting to learn from others on what works for them.
Let’s be honest – when someone mentions HR, your eyes might start to glaze over. But hold that thought! HR Unboxed is here to spice things up and (dare we say it?) make HR actually fun to learn about.
Join me and Faye as we run through our HR horror stories, talk about practical policies and have a laugh whilst doing it! Episodes 1-5 are available for you to listen to, now!
I know it has been a long time since I have done a personal HR blog but to be honest, I haven’t really felt like writing for a while now, but I wanted to thank everyone who has been missing my little HR blog and have been writing to me directly!
Since I launched my business Rebox HR in March 2020, it has been incredibly busy and my little business has gained so much momentum, I’m incredibly proud of how well it has done but it leaves me very little time to blog at the rate I used to! I am writing lots of new content both on here and on my business blog, so if you’re looking for the more of the legal HR stuff, make sure you pop over and give it a follow.
The main reason people contact me is to ask about their own HR careers and what they need to do to progress so as an idea, some of the main questions I am being asked are:
How do I get into an HR career?
How can I progress my career?
I’m stuck in my HR job, I want to do something else – help!
What CIPD qualification is right for me?
Is it worth upgrading my CIPD membership?
As I am now getting around 10-15 emails a week, I thought I would take an opportunity to meet some of you online to talk all things HR, my book Launch Your HR Career (grab your copy here!) and answer your burning questions!
On 7th September 2021, I am hosting an event online at 6:30pm – it would be great if you could join me, to book your ticket, grab yours here! Spaces are limited and on a first come first serve basis so make sure you don’t miss out.
