Hello! Long time no see…

I know it has been a long time since I have done a personal HR blog but to be honest, I haven’t really felt like writing for a while now, but I wanted to thank everyone who has been missing my little HR blog and have been writing to me directly!

Since I launched my business Rebox HR in March 2020, it has been incredibly busy and my little business has gained so much momentum, I’m incredibly proud of how well it has done but it leaves me very little time to blog at the rate I used to! I am writing lots of new content both on here and on my business blog, so if you’re looking for the more of the legal HR stuff, make sure you pop over and give it a follow.

The main reason people contact me is to ask about their own HR careers and what they need to do to progress so as an idea, some of the main questions I am being asked are:

  • How do I get into an HR career?
  • How can I progress my career?
  • I’m stuck in my HR job, I want to do something else – help!
  • What CIPD qualification is right for me?
  • Is it worth upgrading my CIPD membership?

As I am now getting around 10-15 emails a week, I thought I would take an opportunity to meet some of you online to talk all things HR, my book Launch Your HR Career (grab your copy here!) and answer your burning questions!

To me, growing up in West London through the Nineties was the absolute best, it meant dressing up as your favourite Spice Girl or All Saint, you either loved Blur or Oasis (you never sat on the fence with that one!) and you could buy literally everything you needed from the Great British High Street.

I remember the long summers running around with my friends; for me, the one thing I remember about growing up in the 90’s was how pop culture brought everyone together, not everyone could afford the latest CD’s so my friends and I would make mixtapes for each other and swap CD’s on the school bus.

Whilst the Nineties was colourful and full of optimism, at the time, it was incredibly hard for most families, unemployment was high and the country was still recovering from the biggest recession the country has ever seen in the mid Eighties.

Happy International Women’s Day everyone, I hope you are all celebrating all things women power today! In this post, I’m giving IWD a 90’s twist, with some of the lessons I learned from the Spice Girls and how that has stuck with me throughout my career.

Back in 1996, the world was a very different place and it seemed to be dominated by men. For me, those five girls, Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh and encouraged young women everywhere and inspired them to dream big by following their ambitions and being the best version of themselves.

When I first set my heart on a career in HR and started applying for jobs, I heard “I’m sorry, you’re wasting your time, you don’t have any HR experience.” despite having a wealth of transferrable skills, it felt impossible to actually find a way in, but I soon discovered that it is all about being positive and having a determination to succeed.
