Trust is incredibly valuable to our organisations (tell us something we didn’t know) but what does this truly mean to build trust within our organisations.

Rachel started her session by having a few boos to some influential people, unsurprisingly, President Trump got the most boos (just in case you were interested!)

Trust is very contextual, it is all based upon individual perspectives and what we actually think, Rachel gave a great example of Amazon, when you order from them, you know you’ll get your delivery, but if you ask in the context of how they treat their employees or if they pay all of their taxes, then you may find you have a different answer.

HR Acts of Kindness at #cipdACE

It’s time to get blogging; start the countdown to #cipdACE

It’s getting to that time of year again and it’s all rather exciting! Finally we can begin our build up to the biggest HR conference and exhibition of the year and you guessed it, I am part of this year’s CIPD blog squad and absolutely delighted to be asked back for a second time; 2016 was an absolute blast.

I have had the pleasure of tweeting with some of this fabulous bunch over social media for many years and they all have such different perspectives so this year’s coverage is definitely going to be vast and varied to say the least. If you are not already, do make sure you following them over on Twitter, on there you will find links to their blogs which will be used (along with many other social media channels) to discuss all the goings on.

The theme for this year’s 71st ACE is Leading the People Profession; the meaning behind this leads from previous years when the focus has been upon the world of work and the future of work, and as the pace of change becomes greater, there is an expectation that people focused professionals need to constantly adapt and change to meet the needs of those around us.

It’s time to practice some HR Acts of Kindness!

Brexit started a lot of things when it was announced over two years ago, and since then it has caused a lot of controversy and divided the nation. Irrespective of your political views on Brexit, one good thing that came out of it was that it inspired HR acts of kindness.

Never could have I anticipated how well received the project would be at a time when surrounded by uncertainty, shock and anger; and as we continue to face challenging times as a whole, may be this project gave some hope through the HR community. Therefore, I wanted to make it a much more permanent feature on my blog and support our profession with one small act of kindness at a time. Every Monday morning, there will be a new HR Act of Kindness challenge set for the week and as always, I’d love to hear your stories by sharing them right here on the blog.

Life is a rollercoaster…

As the summer days starts to drift away and welcome back autumn,  now couldn’t be a better time to get focused and get back into my studies. From a personal perspective, I have had a lot of life changing things such as buying a house, having my step children for the summer and welcoming a French Bulldog into the Ellis household! Bron is absolutely adorable and he’s settling in really well, so plenty of new things to get used to! Now that everything is settling down, I can now realign my focus and concentrate on my work and studies. This should explain my absence from social media for a short time!

Over the coming weeks, there are going to be lots of things coming up on the blog such as my recruitment collaboration with Lee Lam, the build up to this years CIPD Annual Conference and Exhibition, the CIPD Midlands Area Partnership Conference and updates on my CIPD Level 7 study journey with ICS (not long left now!) I will also be rejoining my team on the CIPD Northants committee, I cannot wait to be back in the swing of things.

CIPD MAP Student Conference 2018 #CIPD18Students

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of speaking at this years’ CIPD Student Conference at Aston University in Birmingham, where the theme was “develop yourself, develop your HR career”.

The day was incredibly inspiring and it was fantastic to see so many people from all different career backgrounds, getting excited about the future of their careers.

The day was full of fantastic speakers, Ian Turner from Specsavers gave an overview on his career but also why HR should focus upon culture, this was supported by a staggering figure that 68% of employees do not feel that their business is actively supporting a positive culture. This is an opportunity for HR to really add value where it really matters.
