Is Blue Monday really that bad?

It has been branded the worst day of the entire year (I know, tough crowd, huh?!) but is Blue Monday really that bad?

Blue Monday was actually a gimmick created by a travel company in an attempt to convince people to book a holiday, and it worked! Blue Monday is actually a big day for retailers, and with the early dark nights, the grey cold weather, the passing of the jolly Christmas festivities and the tight finances can all contribute to feeling a bit blue at this time of year.

It is safe to say that we can all pretty much agree that Monday is not the most exciting day of a week, and it is always hard to get back into the swing of things at work after a nice relaxing weekend. But aren’t we being a little bit harsh on the third Monday of January? Can we really assume it to be the most depressing day of the year? Personally I do not think so, but as with everything, it is a matter of perspective, but one thing is for sure, the media channels love to bring it to our attention every year, however, it is almost always in a negative light.

Winter is the perfect time to reflect upon the past and making new plans for the future, this could be in your career, your personal life or an area of development that you’ve been putting off for a while.

Over Christmas, I had a lot of time to reflect upon what made 2018 so special, and HR acts of kindness was one of those very special things. It has been incredible over the past two years to see people from all over the world brought together through this simple initiative. It has made so many people smile all over the world, so firstly, let me thank each of you who have been a part of it so far, you’re all awesome!

HR acts of kindness advent calendar; day 19, forgiveness

Today’s post is particularly personal to me; it is often said that we can forgive and we don’t necessarily forget, well this I can relate to and is true. I can honestly say that this is one of the most difficult posts I have ever written, but I now feel strong enough to be able to finally talk about it.

When I was in my twenties, I met someone who influenced so many aspects of my life, some were for the better such as how I shaped my career; but others were not so good such as how relationships are not supposed to be.
