HR acts of kindness – January musings

January is known for being dull, grey and cold. Generally miserable to most, but as with most things, I always see the new year with a new month as a fresh opportunity.

Winter is the perfect time to reflect upon the past and making new plans for the future, this could be in your career, your personal life or an area of development that you’ve been putting off for a while.

Over Christmas, I had a lot of time to reflect upon what made 2018 so special, and HR acts of kindness was one of those very special things. It has been incredible over the past two years to see people from all over the world brought together through this simple initiative. It has made so many people smile all over the world, so firstly, let me thank each of you who have been a part of it so far, you’re all awesome!

A perfectly imperfect year

As I write this blog post, instead of sitting in my usual spot, the office at home, I thought I would continue the festive mood by sitting by the Christmas tree with it’s beautiful twinkling lights whilst drinking a cup of tea and a mince pie. You cannot get more festive than this!

Christmas is a time of year conjures up a mixture of thoughts and feelings, it is also a season of familiarity, full of traditions and not to mention an endless to do list. I especially love how everything just seems to stop, the bustling shops begin to calm and families, friends and loved ones gather together to celebrate.

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for”

A week today will be Christmas Day! I hope you are all prepared and ready for the festivities (I’m very disorganised this year so I still have last minute bits to shop for!)

When we spread messages of joy and positivity, we feel good but we also remind others of what joy feels like and it may just inspire others to do the same. It is these small acts of kindness that make a big difference.

How disruptive is losing the CV – Many companies don’t use them anyway, so what difference does it make?

This week on the blog, I am delighted to have collaborated with the wonderful Lee Lam to discuss the relevance of CV’s in recruitment processes; are they actually needed anymore? With many companies choosing to welcome more modern recruitment practices, is it time to ditch the CV for good?

With so many companies already trying different approaches to recruiting their new team members, it would be easy to think that removing the CV from the process completely wouldn’t be seen as that disruptive – indeed, many of the conversations I’ve had with companies are around the fact that they already feel they are being disruptive because they have changed their approach to no longer rely on the CV – but that’s not quite the same as dropping it completely.
