Coming out at work can be one of the most daunting experiences for an employee. There are no set rules around this. Who do they tell? It’s their private business after all. Although it is the individual’s very personal experience, they should not be made to feel that anyone they work with will think any differently towards them. Spread kindness like confetti – HR acts of kindness is back!

After a lot of reflection time and given all that we have been through in recent months, now more than ever, kindness is an essential element needed in our workplaces and our every day lives.

Kindness is the key component to a healthy, successful, and well-balanced life. These elements are all essential to our overall wellbeing and kindness is something that we do because we can, not because we should or are obligated to.

For many of you HR acts of kindness will be a new concept but it was actually founded in 2016 after the Brexit result brought so much divide and upset. Since then HR acts of kindness has appeared in Be Kind Magazine, has influenced behaviours at work all over the world and all through simple acts of kindness and there’s plenty of opportunity to get everyone involved!

Today is a very exciting day as the CIPD takes its Festival of Work online for the first time.

Not only has this allowed people from all over the world to attend and come together, but it is also showing us the future of conferences by embracing the current circumstances and creating an opportunity despite the challenges we face.

The opening keynote from Peter Cheese was inspiring and as a leader, he is not afraid to address the current global issues, not only COVID-19 and the pending recession but he paid a touching tribute to George Floyd and called out the undertones of racism the exists within our society.

Working fathers need flexibility too! Encouraging gender equality in parenting

The debate around parental leave is one that seems to be ongoing and in light of the latest British Social Attitudes survey, the results demonstrate that despite being in 2019, that there is still a strong view towards mothers taking the lead on parental leave.

Despite the shifting dynamics of UK households, a time where women have a focus upon their career and are quickly becoming the main source of income within thousands of households, it begs the question; what can we do to change the view on fathers taking time out to bring up their children equally with mothers?
