Today is a very exciting day as the CIPD takes its Festival of Work online for the first time.

Not only has this allowed people from all over the world to attend and come together, but it is also showing us the future of conferences by embracing the current circumstances and creating an opportunity despite the challenges we face.

The opening keynote from Peter Cheese was inspiring and as a leader, he is not afraid to address the current global issues, not only COVID-19 and the pending recession but he paid a touching tribute to George Floyd and called out the undertones of racism the exists within our society.

Without question, the coronavirus outbreak is having an impact on all of our daily lives, and as we all adjust to the new normal of social distancing, home schooling and the dining tables becoming boardrooms; all this change can have a significant impact upon our mental health.

At the moment, it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there are many things that we can do to positively support our wellbeing during these uncertain times. Leading By Example: The Firms Sticking Up For Their Employees Through The Covid-19 Crisis

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the world forever and as most of the world’s population opt to stay indoors and amend their day-to-day behaviour, businesses everywhere are taking a hit. Despite daily press briefings from the government making promises made of bailouts, benefits and business bankrolls, many companies are being forced to take a stand and take drastic, immediate action to ensure their survival. This is, unfortunately, often in the form of mass redundancies, forced unpaid leave for employees or temporary closure.

However, through every crisis, there lays opportunity; there are businesses out there shining a light on good practice and really taking care of their employees where they can. When the pandemic’s hold over the world is over, it’s these firms that will be considered good examples and exemplary employers. Of course, not everyone is in the position to take these measures, but where they can happen, and are, they’re fast becoming a guiding light in otherwise global darkness.
