#HRActsOfKindness Challenge 3

So yesterday everyone was very quiet about the initiative so do let me know how you got on. Today we are picking up the pace!

Challenge 3

Support a positive culture or on boarding process by asking a new (or newish) employee in your business how they are getting on and offer any assistance in helping them settle in.

For the freelancers!

Be encouraging to someone’s idea or project and offer any guidance that may help them

#HRActsOfKindness is back! Challenge 1/5

I cannot tell you how excited I am to be bringing back #HRActsOfKindness this week for you all, I have had so many messages, emails and tweets from all over and I’m so pleased at how many of you want to get involved!

A warm welcome back to those who joined in last year, I loved hearing your stories from all over the world and it showed very quickly how together we can all make a difference just by being positive. I even had messages from people outside of HR who had been helped by their HR department as a result of the initiative.

For those joining us the first time around, a huge welcome to you and believe me, together we can achieve incredible things. It’s easy to follow, there is a challenge set each day for five days and all you need to do, is do them!

This initiative is not just for HR professionals, it is for everyone. The reason it was branded this was is because I believe that HR can be a function which challenges the status quo and leads by example. Secondly, it is simply what I do for a living!

Kindness is not a fluffy term by any stretch of the imagination, it is a carefully considered and purposeful selfless action that people do often without thought and without expectation.

The challenges I set for you each day at 8am are set with the purpose of simply passing kindness around from one person to another and spreading that through our organisations, to our friends and family.

Please feel free to share your stories with me by either commenting below or you can tweet me or even email me at natalie@ellishr.co.uk. Don’t forget to use the #HRActsOfKindness to get more people involved.

So are we ready to rock?! Of course you are!

Challenge 1

Send three positive messages to three different people that you are connected with.

Time to write my own chapter; my first HR book is in progress!

Books

Hello everyone,

I’m back in my writing chair with my tea companion (yes finally!)

I’m looking forward to sharing all of my new blog posts with you (and there’s quite a few!) that I have been working on behind the scenes. I’ve been exposed to varying situations over the past couple of months that has required a high degree of reflection to allow me to bring the situations to life on the blog; so thank you for being patient with me.

As many of you know, I adore books and always have since I was a child; naturally, it has always been an ambition of mine to write my own book but I never thought I would have anything to write about! Then I started my career in HR and my life changed, so what better subject to write about?

Therefore, I thought it would be an appropriate time to share the exciting news that I am in process of writing my first HR book, which really is a dream come true and I cannot wait to share it with you.

This book has taken various experiences that I’ve had to inspire those new to HR, the seasoned professionals, people considering HR as a career or those who have simply hit a career slump and want to bounce back. This book is about the practical realities of the profession to truly bring it to life; the practical pieces that cannot be taught in a classroom.

I started writing the book in March and it has come on a long way since then; I’m hoping it’ll be ready for release at the end of this year/beginning of 2018.

Watch this space and I look forward to releasing my next blog post tomorrow morning!

Best wishes,

Natalie

Time to start the next adventure!

Apologies for the radio silence, it’s been a tricky few weeks so I thought I would give a quick update on me.

After 2 fantastic years, I’m moving on from my role at Forterra and am actively seeking a new challenge. I am sad to say goodbye and would like to say a big thank you to my team, colleagues and managers for the opportunity to work with them and also develop the HR department into one worthy of supporting the transformation into a Plc.

As an overview, here are some of my key achievements:

  • Lead the employee engagement survey with Best Companies in 2016 and 2017 to identify areas of improvement
  • Successfully negotiated and introduced a new recruitment system (Blue Octopus)
  • Created the Frontline to Forterra recruitment programme to recruit ex-forces personnel
  • Established a HR Charter; an SLA with the business to ensure the HR team delivered efficient, high quality and consistent service at all times
  • Designed and implemented an apprentice and graduate scheme

Whilst I aim to achieve a full-time position, I’m also available to provide bespoke support as an independent consultant to assist with HR initiatives or interim positions you may need external support with.

If you are seeking someone who is a highly experienced HR professional, I’m happy to connect.

Best wishes,

Natalie
