A new year brings new opportunities #ICSRealStories

Forget resolutions, make 2018 the year to achieve your goals!

The mince pies have been eaten and the parties have wound down. This is the time of year that many people sit down and write a list of resolutions to achieve by this time next year, only to be left disheartened a few weeks later; but not this year.

This year, I have decided to tear up those resolutions and break that negative cycle by doing something meaningful. As a HR professional, continuous development is really important and a priority, so I have set myself a goal to complete my level 7 Diploma in HR Management including the two exams which are set for May and September.

Given my existing commitments, this has not a decision that I have taken lightly but I am motivated and determined to enhance my career with a full CIPD qualification, besides, there is no point in doing half a job is there?!

Believe me, I made every excuse NOT to start the course, it’s too expensive, I can’t deal with exam pressure, I’m too busy…

With every excuse, there is a counter-argument; if I put it off now, then I’ll be waiting another year to do it; yes it is expensive but it is an investment in my long term career and with ICS Learn, there are payment options to make it easier; yes I am busy with work, family life and my commitments to the CIPD but the sooner I get started, the sooner I can continue supporting my local CIPD branch.

Just because I’m studying, it doesn’t mean my life and other commitments have to stop, if I am organised and determined, I do not feel that I am missing out. It really is that simple.

So don’t put off your dream career because the timing is not right, when is there a right time? Think about what is important to you and what you really want to achieve, because nothing is more damaging to your career and self confidence than regret.

Simply believe and you can achieve, go for it and I promise that you will not regret it!
